1. What are HPL’s practices regarding the collection of
information from children?

When school districts, schools or teachers purchase NorthStar Math and completes the registration process, they provide personally identifiable information regarding the students who will be logging on to our Website. This information may include, but is not limited to: first name, last name, email address, grade level, gender, English language proficiency, free/reduced lunch status and ethnicity. One purpose of this information is to permit schools to run reports specific to Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) subgroups. Harcourt and HPL expect that the customer has the authority to complete this process and has obtained all necessary parental consent to supply this information prior to sending it to HPL.

Students may participate in Live Chat with HPL support staff. As a part of this process, they are asked for their email address and name.

We do not disclose personally identifiable information to third parties or post such information on our site. We do not use games, prizes or other activities to entice children to more information than is needed for participation in an activity.

Profile
We store information that we collect through cookies to create a profile of our users. A profile is stored information that we keep on individual users, that details their viewing preferences. Consequently, collected information is tied to the users’ personally identifiable information to provide optimum services to the user. This profile is used to tailor a user’s visit to our Web site. We do not share your profile with other third parties. Certain parts of student profiles is used to allow teachers and administrators to run reports designed to measure student progress in subgroups consistent with AYP goals.

It is the user’s responsibility to use discretion in creating the User ID. The user also chooses a password at the time of registration. It is the user’s responsibility to keep the password confidential. All of our users’ information is restricted in our offices.
